[He's not dead.

It's the most important thing he can cling to in the aftermath of the battle with Adam, even as he feels the cold chain of his deal binding him to a path that could so easily have led to his destruction. How humiliating if he had fallen there, to be remembered in the same way as that fool Sir Pentious, their names forever intertwined as heroes.

Disgusting. Hilarious.

But he's not dead, that didn't come to pass, so he has options. He still has ways to turn this to his advantage while he works on wiggling free of his constraints, and most of those advantages are tied up in little Miss Morningstar. Her potential, her naivety, her trusting nature-- he needs for her to lean on him and take his advice, even more so now that Lucifer is involved more actively.

That means giving her crumbs of reasons to think he cares in his own way about her and the hotel, or at least that he trusts her in return. Loathe as he is to admit it, this wound is one of those crumbs that he can turn to his advantage. Or perhaps it's just easier to swallow his pride in needing to ask for help if he frames it as a means to tie a string to her, rather than putting himself in a position of actual vulnerability.

He waits until night has fallen and most of the others have dispersed to the newly rebuilt bar, before he approaches where she's sat already making new lesson plans for the future.]

Charlie, a word if I may? In private.
